Nurse “Holly”, not her real name, has spent nearly 3 decades as an ER nurse and works in a Bronx public hospital serving residents on the margins. Her story speaks of many health professionals being pushed to their limit in a city and a time when beds are filled to capacity as even healthy people are falling ill to COVID-19, and she is still having to defend herself from friends who believe the emergency is a hoax.
